In a continuation into second series of geometric abstraction, I’ve looked to freeing the form from the compositional plane into its own biomorphic shape to release the static energy of the work from constraint. As Portraits was a body of work identifying and translating persons into the language of line, color and shape all with the confines of the lives we lead (the panel itself) these organic panels look to evoke the omnipresence of our collective conditions, thoughts, and attitudes free of any barrier. Other artists such as Frank Stella, Ellsworth Kelly and Jeremy Moon worked to reform the compositional plane and created shaped canvases. I look to these techniques less about abstracting the physical medium but more as a consideration to bring about the sculptural in a two dimensional object (ignoring its depth).
